50 million in three years? I'm sure DVD sold more than that.

Possible but if those DVD players numbers also included PS2 numbers it is not shocking.

Anyway star scream posted a link sometime ago from a blu ray forum where you could see blu ray is gaining market and that total dvd profit so far is losing 5-10% compared to last year.  Blu ray is getting popular and is hurting DVD (slowly) more and more.

well the first dvd players came out in early 1997 in the US so the PS2 isn't out yet.  That's one of the big differences between blu-ray and DVD though, DVD was ready to be adopted right when the PS2 came out, blu-ray was not.  Blu-ray was being pushed by PS3 right from the beginning, player releasing only a few months before the PS3.  So up until this point blu-ray has been carried by PS3, and for DVD PS2 hasn't even come out yet.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X
