They extended the warranty within about a year of release and immediately offered to reimburse people who had failures before that time. Sony hid the truth, denied and denied and then finally when they admitted there was a problem they hid it from plain site on their support pages. Im not saying that the RROD problem wasn't bad, im saying that Sony has acted like complete assholes on this issue and thats with someone else footing a majority of the bill, Microsoft took the hit themselves and they came to the party much sooner and they did it openly.
They never admitted any problems in any of their consoles, despite their reputations for having a higher than normal failure rate.
