Prices on BD media have dropped considerably over the last year.
I regularly see major release BD movies going for under $20 (at brick and mortar retail outlets) and new releases are typically under $25.
I don't know if everyone complaining about the price just blotted it from memory or if they were all late DVD adopters, but new DVDs used to cost about $30 a pop when the format was new as well. It wasn't until years later that the standard retail price on new movies was $20.
