Never had a c64 but remember the tape thing from a friend. Sometimes it had a reading error and you had to rewind and start the whole process again, lol!
But I think you were even able to copy games with a regular two deck stereo. Guess that was the reason why most of my friends preferred their c64 to my NES: Being able to copy games.
If I remember correctly the floppy drive for the c64 alone was more expensive than the NES though...
