He should get credit for forcing the issue. I do this kind of thing at work all the time. As a developer, I ask people what they want an application to do. A lot of the time I get blank stares. In those cases, I approach them with “And here is how I plan to do it”. Many of those times I get “but I don’t want it that way, I want it done like this...”. If forces them to give me an answer, which is all I wanted in the first place.
