Fuzz, I'm surprised you didn't like the AfterTouch segments of the game. I thought they were great and offered what was the only original gameplay element to Heavenly Sword. The Kai levels were easily my favorite, even though they were too easy.
I gave it a higher rating than you (an 8/10), but I can definitely see why you gave it that rating if you didn't care for AfterTouch. Other than that, the only other part of the game that stood out was the voice acting by Andy Serkis, and a game can't hold its own based solely on cutscenes.
