There is a slight difference between piracy and television recording. Which is whenever anything is shown on television the network has paid for the right to display that content, which means even if you record it with your vcr the production companies are getting paid. Whereas with piracy they aren't. So not only are they not making money from it (and no I'm not suggesting here that they're neccesarily losing any money from other revenue streams as thats a whole other can of worms) its being done without their permission.

This is their content, not yours, and thus its their right to choose what platforms they're distributing their content on. Maybe they should develop a television like model with torrent sites? Get the sites to pay them a few million for the rights to have their users download the torrent and maybe get a slice of the advertising pie aswell or something? Just some food for thought.

But that would require legitimate torrent businesses, ones that don't traffic in piracy.
