The first two reasons you have asserting exclusivity, is one that is constantly battled by people. There is no answer to either of them. We don't know if there is an exclusivity contract, and nobody knows how much it would sell. I agree that it would be a small number, but some seem to think it would sell at least 2M+. All in all these points are debateable. The other ones, (when he thought of it originally) were supposed to be undeniable/undebatable reasons. So i understand why he is talking about it. 1. By virtue of your own #3, the game is a full 50GB. However, it is uncompressed audio, and we also don't know the exact proportion of data it takes up. Was Heavenly Sword compressed? If so, then we have at least a rough estimate of how much space it would take up. I also can't argue about space for sound because I don't know how much compression works. Does it cut the size in halves, fifths, tenths? 2. He did make a point about redundant assets, which would need to take up space on each 360 disc. He also said that MS reserves space on each disc for security reasons. I dunno, how much either of those points are true but they make sense to me. I agree though, it could either be 2 discs to 8 discs, surely 17 is out of the question. |
It is true that MS does reserve space on each disc, and are unlikely to relent on this. It gives you a total of 6.8GB to play with. The engine for the game itself wouldn't take a few GB's though. Nor would the common assets (textures, music etc). You would still have a substantial amount of room too breath on each disc. As for Heavenly Sword, I believe that was the uncompressed figure. Peter Molyneux of Lionhead was recently discussing how most data that goes into a game can be compressed into ONE, ONE HUNDREDTH of it's original size.
Now while that would not be true for all the data in MGS4 (or even close), it puts most of what this guys is saying into perspective. Particularly when you take into account the DVD9's higher maximum read speeds.
While I agree that we have no official confirmation of bought exclusivity, I would like your opinion. Do you honestly believe that Konami ignored a userbase 1.5 times the size of the PS3's with a MASSIVE shooter fanbase and heavy Western presence without some financial incentive from Sony?
