Absolutely. I was sceptic at frist, because I also never played an MGS before, but the moment I started playing I knew I didn't have to regret anything ;) Of course the story can get complicated at times, but you can guess a lot as the game goes on, and you can still read/watch what you were missing. The core experience is great nonetheless, it's my favorite PS3 game along with Valkyria Chronicles.
