Maybe it's just me but..
The group shouldn't get so up in arms about it. It seems that anything trying to remotely deride homosexuality is met with anger.
My take is this: As a Christian, we have a similar set of issues. Many people take the name of God, and Jesus in vain, in the same way people use the phrase 'That's so gay'. Difference is, there's not a national campaign staring Kirk Cameron. I don't label people that use the phrase as repugnant or a hatemonger. I just learn to live in the tolerance of knowing that they're morons and don't 'get it'.
I think this group should just take a chill pill instead of getting so wacky. Such groups, Christian, Gay, Muslim, Liberal, whatever aren't going to get respect trying to change common vernacular by insulting them. It will live or die on it's own merits.
