Nintendo has always been one of the largest publishers ... but with the dominance of the DS, fast sales of the Wii, and the fact that few publishers except for Nintendo have provided really good experiences on either platform Nintendo they are becomming the dominant force in the industry ...
In most years, Nintendo (typically) leads software sales in North America until August when Madden, NHL 200x and NBA 200x give EA the lead; currently, in the middle of October, Nintendo has a 9 Million unit of software lead over EA (2.5 Million if you discount Wii Sports and Wii Play) and they will potentially sell an additional 10 Million units of software before the end of the year.
