A second opinion from a friend:

@MikeB

I have now ordered a Playstation 3 40GB.
I read on swedish forums that it is alot quieter and cooler running than the older 60GB version. Coupled with the new lower price I had to buy a unit.
The missing features, memory card reader, smaller harddrive, 2 USB and no
PS2 emulation will not be missed by me atleast.

It will mainly be used for Blu-ray but also for the occasional game now and then.

I don't understand the complaint that there ain't no games for PS3.. I saw alot in
the site where I ordered my unit. Also a hell of alot of new games that will be
released late 2007 and during 2008.

IMO PS2 backwards compatibility is important, at least for a few dozen high profile games, especially the God of War games were great for me (works great on my PAL PS3).

But we aren't all the same, we all have different preferences. The entry price is far more important to some, IMO ideally Sony keeps selling two SKUs (one low priced entry model, with core additional features like Blu-Ray and harddrive, and one high end model with all the bells and whistles), at least until proper software emulation is added for the higher profile games. It looks like we are well underway to see a slimline PS3 being released next year, I think they could take out Wi-Fi for an entry model as well (but IMO providing a model with all the extras should be provided as well).

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."
