That statement doesn't make sense.
You can make a big game on a tiny disc, by reusing the same audio or textures a lot, and compressing a lot.
Now you have a big disc, you can put more textures, more audio, more content.
So how do you come to the conclusion of less variety? and how is it not that impressive?
