Makes sense. A 3 hour press conference would be almost twice as long as their E3 conference. 1 hour is still more than enough time for Sony to give their usual sales and performance PR talk and then announce the slim, new EU vidoe store and any firmware/PSN updates. I don't think we're going to see any more news on GT5 here though, will most likely be saved for TGS.
