In my opinion arguably the UN is already an extremely lightweight and ineffective world government.
It can either be looked at as a hopeless world government or a somewhat effective international body.
Personally I can see the UN gaining more influence over its members as he world becomes more globalised essentially meaning that sovereignty will be slightly broken down as human rights abuses and the suchlike will not be tolerated. Either that or the UN could lose some of the mild power it does have and essentially become a discussion forum for the world.
