Are like any even semi-smart person does, they back-up there saves to a USB stick or SD card and buy a HD 5 times the size of the microsoft one and for a quarter of the price. |
There should be a poll to see how many PS3 users actually
a) regularly back up their PS3
b) regularly copy their latest game saves
c) occasionally back up their PS3 (six months ago. once)
d) occasionally back up their game saves (holy crap, I have to start back WHERE on all my games?)
e) "back the what up now?"
Unfortunately, doing a full back up is the only way to copy "protected" game save data that cannot be copied by any other means. It's one of the issues I'd like to see addressed in future firmware updates although it's probably deemed low priority as I'm going to guess most users have never used the PS3 back up function at all if they even know it exists.
Once I have over 300GB on my main PS3, I may have to pick up another larger external drive to fully back it up (may well just buy a multi TB NAS eventually to back up all my computer systems). Many would also be less likely to do back ups on high cap drives due to the length of time it takes (200GB+ took hours to back up and restore).
But a cheap 500GB external drive will handily back up any current size 2.5" SATA drive that fits in the PS3.
