Nethack: 2 or 3 times

It's an incredibly sophisticated, but old fashioned, dungeon crawler with randomly generated levels. This is a must play game for everyone who has a computer new enough to play it (i.e. just about any computer made in the last 20 years). I've only beaten it 2 or 3 times because it is the most brilliantly sadistic game ever made. I've come so close to getting the Amulet of Yendor so many times only to die in some gruesome fashion (killed by a mumak, drowned by a giant eel, turned to stone by a cockatrice, turned into slime by a green slime). Every death can be avoided if you're properly prepared and think out your actions, but even knowing how to escape from every hazard it's difficult not to make a mistake.

I never got into Nethack actually.  Which one should I download?  I played a lot of regular Hack back in the day, and now my favorite is ADoM.  Ancient Domains of Mystery.  I've been playing it off and on for over 10 years and I've never beaten it.  It's amazing.  And free.  And anybody who likes games at all should give it a whirl.
