I've only bought collectors editions for cool games... 
Actually theres a tangible benefit for me.
For Killzone 2 I loved the tangible feel of the tin box and I loved mocking Xbots like MM476 and Kantor that I could buy such an awesome game and not them.
For Halo: ODST, I loved how the controller which came with it was unique and it was cheaper than buying a controller seperately. Though I would never own an Xbox 360 I was just denying Xbots their chance to buy overprices M$ merchandise.
