I did not know much about the Gears movie history, so I decided to look it up.

Gears of War:

Companies involved:  New Line, Legendary Pictures, Warner Brothers

Having Legendary Pictures co-finance and co-produce is a VERY good thing.  They have a history of allowing directors to do what they need to do to get their ideas on screen.  This might actually allow the movie to be R-rated.

Producers: Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey

Looking at the past projects for both of these guys does not bode well.  Marty is a new comer with the main production being Twilight.  Twilight being successful may give him more clout for getting a better budget.  Wyck Godfrey has a not so good track record.  Twilight and I, Robot being his most successful productions.  With a couple clunkers in there: Flight of the Phoenix, AvP, and Eragon.

Co-Producer: Cliffy B

If Cliffy is given enough power, this could help to keep the movie in line with the game.  This could keep it from becoming like Doom where the movie only had a passing resemblance to the game.

Script: Chris Morgan

He did a decent job with Wanted, and a somewhat decent job with Cellular.  I haven't seen the two Fast and Furious movies that he did, so I cannot comment on that.  Seems like a decent script writer.  Means that this will most likely be nothing special.  But it should not be bad though.

First Draft Script:  Stuart Beattie

He wrote Collateral, which is a very nice movie.  He helped on the first Pirates, which is a good thing.  Very entertaining.  Never saw 30 Days of Night, but I heard it was decent.  He did minor help with the second and third Pirates, that is a good thing that he only had a minor hand in those.  He helped with Australia, which the only complaint I have on that one is that it was too damn long.  A connection with G.I.Joe is a VERY bad thing in my opinion.  Overall, a competent writer.

Director: Len Wiseman

The two Underworld movies are decent with some nicely done action set pieces.  Die Hard was tragic for me to watch, mainly due to the neutering of the Die Hard tone.  The movie was still well shot and the set pieces(while over the top) were quite well done, but Fox, being Fox, decided to make it more marketable.  A very competent director.

Overall, it looks like a group of competent people are involved with this project.  Could be a good romp.

Oh and news about the movies has slowed to a crawl.  Looks like it could actually be going the way of Halo.  Some of this info may not even be correct anymore.
