I would say God of Wars story would make for an epic movie but they really need to nail the right actor for Kratos and the movie better have an R rating. I think if they concentrated both on the emotional family side of Kratos as well as his pure rage they could make a sufficently deep movie.
Gears of War on the other hand is also setting up for a nice movie since their going with using D-day as the back drop which again can add an emotional aspect as well as the action of course. Based off seeing how much the team behind GoW cares about this movie and its actors I think this movie will be a more critically acclaimed movie than God of War.
But like someone else said if someone like Peter Jackson or Steven Speilberg made a good Halo movie I think it would blow both of them out of the water.
