No PC gamers here?
I think the US is really being overlooked here. They've got Will Wright (Sims anything), Blizzard (WoW, Starcraft, Diablo 2), and Valve (Steam, Half-Life). That's only the current big names off the top of my head - I'm sure an old game history expert can give the details, but I'm willing to bet far more game genres were "born" in the U.S. than anywhere else. Hell, the whole Dragon Quest idea was only possible due to the older WRPG's.
While I usually prefer Japanese games more than others, I think those saying it goes to Japan "easily" may be a bit off. If they are #1, I'd say it's mainly thanks to Nintendo (NES, Mario, Game Boy, DS, Wii).
