WiiFit is *exactly* what Nintendo want.
- it sells consoles
- it sells software (WiiFit at least)
- it sells to non-gamers
- its going to be another "WiiSports" type game ("come to my house, try this out...")
90% of the challenge of getting someone to buy a piece of (console) software - is getting them to buy the console first. By using marketing and other tools, its possible to sell completely different software to these users (once they have the console).
The only people that suffer are "hard-core gamers". They are no longer special, consoles are no longer specifically their domain. Companies will make software that appeals to everyone - not just the hardcore.
Its the same old arguments all over again.
I can assure you, both Sony & MS would love to have WiiFit coming out in their product line. And if they did, 95% of the fans (for that console) would be happy about it.
Selling more consoles is never a bad thing.
