No, no. The points are for the trophies. Bronze are one, Silver are two, Gold are six (?), and Platinum are twelve (?). Something like that anyway. Those add together to determine your overall level. Each disc based game can only have something like 81 points so if I was to buy Uncharted, and you buy Killzone 2, we both can earn the same amount of points. The same goes for downloadable games, but they have less points since they're usually smaller games.
EDIT: Beaten by two people, but I hope you understand what's going on now. The developers don't pay with any point system. It's just about the trophies themselves.
