I would choose Versus. I prefer the darker tone, and any character that can teleport, put up force fields, deflect bullets, and draw multiple weapons in the air from one master sword definitely wins in my book.
I've played the japanese XIII demo and I was let down so far. The battle system was good so I think that part of gameplay will be fine, but I have some other concerns. I really hope the areas and paths won't be as linear in the full game. Also I'm worried the story and characters won't be that strong and voice acting will hurt the performances. Right now Sazh seems too goofy for the situations he's in. I kind of miss the days when Final Fantasy's used text because you could give each character their own cool sounding voice in your head.
Of all the new voice acted FF characters I would say Aurons was the best.
