well ps2 had it, and it happen the other way around, more AAA titles, and more competition from company nintendo slashed the gamecube to 99$ and the xbox had to sell at a loss for the whole generation and thats was good for consumers.
eeven if the ps2 didn't need it, it got price cuts from time to time.
not happening for nintendo because third parties are putting it AAA somewhere else, and nintendo it's making profits and not cutting the price of the wii eitther to be competitive.
not going to happen to microsoft, actually they applying tactics preventing games like JRPG to be multiplatform into the ps3 or wii which they use against linux or paying for exclusive DLC.
why sony had to overengineer the ps3?, i seriously don't think they were trying to screw everybody, when you do so, you should at least make sure you are at least making a profit. but they were loosing 200$ on each ps3 for a year. and still loosing 40$ or only breaking even now.
this generation kinda a mess, leader is not the cheapest console, good games are on the more expensives ones or portable consoles.
