The problem with the Wii is that it's embedded frame buffer is of only 2 MB, so the games would have serious frame problems with resolutions bigger than 16/9 anamorphic 640x448/640x456, the most usual resolutions in Wii. Then the image is stretched to the resolution of 854x480.
You could use main 1TRam as a frame buffer, but it would be so slow that it's not practical.
