It's interesting, because in the UK you have to pay for a TV license which basically pays for BBC which doesn't have any advertisements.

Very few people seem to take issue with this.

When it comes to games, though, people will (pretty much) always choose the ads - perhaps it's because we're already waiting for it to load, why not try and sell us something, as well?

My biggest problem with it is that even if you just have a TV to play videogames (or watch DVDs/Blu-rays), you still have to pay the fees.

To the OP, I favor free stuff.  I don't mind a little ads.  Needless to say, I don't have Xbox Live and usually get games for PS3 if they are on both PS3 and Xbox 360.

This isn't technically true. If you have a TV, and it isn't tuned into any broadcast, and it isn't connected to an aerial, you can say that you don't use your TV for watching TV, and that you only use it for non-broadcast.

Interestingly, you can have your computer hooked up to it, and a TV license isn't required to watch BBC iPlayer content.

There may be ways to opt out if you work for it; but sometimes, by default, the government thinks you owe them and the government will come for your money.
