Screen size does have something to do with it. I believe to the 2560 x 1600 resolution is the max for 30" monitors.

But I can also get a 30" monitor with 1920x1200 ,max

or 1920x1080 max

or 1600x1050 max

or 1280 x 768 max

or 1280 x 1024 max


Also how long until 2560 x 1600 reaches lower sized monitors? or a higher resolution comes along, then what?

It's just so much easier to say My resolution is ______, telling someone they have a 23" monitor means nothing.

The screen size tells you absolutely nothing.
