To give you an idea of just how good he was, in 1966 he was a freshman at UCLA. Back then, Freshmen could not play on the varsity team, so he played on the freshman team. The varsity UCLA team was the #1 ranked team in the country. The freshman team played the the varsity team, and the freshmen won 75-60, and Kareem scored 51 points in that game.
Then, when he was allowed to play on the varsity team for the next three years, they went 88-2, and won the national championship all three years.
He didn't do to bad in the NBA either ;p

He is also the third all-time in registered blocks (3,189), which is even more impressive because this stat had not been recorded until the fourth year of his career (1974)."
