Trophies would be useful and might actually matter if Sony had some sort of competitive thing with them...
For example: Top 100 PSN users who get the most trophies per month gets a free _insert upcoming game here_ T-Shirt (ie. walking billboard).
Or
After getting 5 platinum trophies you get a free t-shirt or $5 redeem for PSN.
You might think "why would Sony give away free stuff??"
1. It would get ppl to buy more games and want to unlock trophies for a reason.
2. The cost of t-shirts is almost nothing, and you then get free advertising when people wear it.
