In the context of the question yes it can but not in every situation. After all I could use a pointer like I would with a projector today, it replaces the mouse but it would not be ideal in all situations, but in others such as a presentation it is superior to a mouse.
I think some of the previous posters need to get out of the box a bit more often before responding.
