I think you might have answered your own question... the source might be shit, but people are ready to believe the rumour anyways, so this just reaffirm it.
Its like me saying, hey guys, I have source 'a' who says we won't be getting that ds game where you hunt down witches (cute anime girl) and rub parts of their body to make sure they're... you know a 'witch'. Random source, totally believable rumour.
