For a while the Yakuza were a big crime thing. They are always on mainstream shows and crap.
Them or the Tong anyway.
Either way though.... yeah this isn't much of a surprise.
I mean they took years to port the games over last generation... back when the economy was all great and stuff and company's weren't losing their shirts in expensive development and needing to pool resources.

No, they were never well known in the west. In fact, I doubt most Americans could even tell you who the Triads are, much less the Yakuza. Sega is being smart. If they release their game in the west and it sells sub-100k on an HD budget, they are going to lose a ton of money.
