Consumer affairs show Fair Go has tackled the New Zealand Xbox Live disabled download problem by encouraging consumers to purchase a PlayStation 3 over an Xbox 360.
At 7.30pm last night TV ONE's Fair Go investigated a recent problem with Microsoft’s online Xbox Live service where downloads have been completely disabled for those New Zealanders using under-18 accounts.
This includes game and additional content downloads with PG and even G ratings. Furthermore, Microsoft took no measures to prevent under-18s from purchasing Microsoft Points – the online currency used to purchase items on the Xbox Live service – which were then unusable on an under-18 account.
Much like Game Console, Fair Go reporter Gordon Harcourt received brief and largely uninformative statements from Microsoft on the matter . Harcourt went as far as to dismiss Microsoft’s response as “inadequate” and “arrogant”.
However, Fair Go did eventually receive the same statement reproduced by Game Junkie’s Gerard Campbell – as reported by Game Console yesterday – in which Microsoft claims to be working on a fix and offers reimbursement for those with unusable Microsoft Points.
