Well, that depends on the game... A game like MGS4 which will probably have a lot of cutscenes would need a lot of space, because pre-rendered video content takes up a lot of space... But if your game is more about real-time rendering, you just need the space for storing the models, textures, etc. which don't require much space.
And to go even farther with my argument, procedural generation requires even less space and can generate graphics in any desired resolution (RAM/CPU/GPU become the bottleneck much earlier than disc space would).
If you want proof, there are tons of PC games capable of running at resolutions better than 1080p. Many of them fit perfectly in a single DVD.
