Your right, I looked at the numbers again and they have not lost all of it, just a very very large chunk of it. They made about 4.8 billion in the ps1/ps2 era and have lost about 3.5 billionish in the ps3 era. So I was wrong. Here are the numbers http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=15845813&postcount=766
As for MS, they have lost TONS of money on 360, but I do not know what the point of failure is for the company based on why they made xbox in the first place and how it has performed. |
even though both Microsoft and Sony have lost money on their systems, there is more money to be made in this market than the previous generation. due simply to online profit streams this generation.
Sony like microsoft and nintendo have online content sale's and rental's. that will grow as the network grows which both microsoft and sony and nintendo has millions of signed up user's. Now not everyone may not purchase anything from the online store's of each company. but if anything has shown what can be sold one only just has to look at Apple.
When gamer's are already paying for map pack expansions there are clear signs that this generation's market is nothing like last generation's its more expanded of a market. there are more product's to buy for consumer's. and there are thing's outside of game's that are getting a presence on these market places.
this generation is much more expanded market ,which also means stiffer competition this time arround than last generation due to the market's expansion of product's and services offered this generation over last generation.
