I really hate to break it to anyone getting excited over the slim PS3, but it'll probably be more expensive than the phat, which will probably retain its current price to pay for the slim's higher manufacturing costs.

Why do people keep saying the slim will have higher manufacturing costs? Aren't the slim models made of less material and have smaller components/dye sizes, making them cheaper to produce?

Presumably, but there's the associated R&D costs to consider. Plus Sony did just announce a more expensive (though cheaper to produce, one would think) new model of the PSP, justifying the extra cost to the consumer as an "early adopter premium" or whatever.

So I wouldn't be surprised to see the fat get a price cut and the slim introduced at the current price.

Exactly. If they made the PSP Go so expensive, what makes you think the slim PS3 will be cheaper than the phat?

Still, the fact remains that neither the existence for the PS3 slim nor a price drop is backed up by any solid evidence.
