Damned PC users... biting the hand that feed them ....

While there's no argument that piracy is rampant, the real question is how many of them would have translated into actual sales were piracy not a viable option (hint: every downloaded game does NOT equal a lost sale at full retail value; the real number is somewhere in between).  It's generally unwise to accept industry arguments for losses in this case; for example, if you accept at face value the RIAA's claim that each act of infringement cost them $150,000 (as stated about five or six years ago), then one month of torrents would be worth more than the GDP of France.  Also, pointing to piracy as a causal factor may be highly misleading - is there any chance, for example, that newer games simply suck compared to the older ones?

I'm not taking any side here, for the record, but I do want people to take a more balanced view of the situation into account.  It's not as one sided as certain people make it out to be.
