The one idea I've been thinking about lately and something I would like to see implemented next gen is a breakaway controller. Think of it this way:
Take a 360 controller and make an option where it can split down the middle. Put individual batteries in it so it will be completely cordless (yes, it will be expensive).
Then put acceleromaters in each unit and an IR sensor in the left and right units.
That way you have a traditional controller that can still be split and used comfortably a la the Wiimote. Best of both worlds, I tell ya.
