Right now Sony's franchises are worth nothing to them, since they are losing money on their games business. If the PS3 and its games didn't exist Sony would be in a better financial position.

Why would any publisher buy Sony's franchises (or Sony just become a software-only company in the games business) if it costs more money to develop a game in those franchises than the revenue earned from the game sales?
