"Video games aren’t just for socially awkward guys who live in their parents’ basements and have Funyun and Mountain Dew breath, anymore."
And they never were. Video games have been appealing to a wide variety of demographics for a long time. We don't need female leads to draw in women. Movies have even demographics, and an even share of men and women. Still, if you look at the highest grossing movies of all time, none of them have central female protagonists. You can go on and on reading through the list, and it will still be tough to find one. How many famous books have female protagonists, at least in comparison to male protagonists? Women aren't as successful in music as men are either, we should complain about that too.
Point is, we don't need more female representation in gaming. Women are going to play games because they're fun and they appeal to them, not because they need to fight the battle of the sexes and make companies lose money.
