Oh, I'll agree with you on this one. FF7 severely reduced my interest in anything with the Final Fantasy name.
However, I'll chime in with another vote for Chrono Cross. It was supposed to be the sequel to Trigger (one of the best games ever), and instead slaps us in the face with what they did to the old characters.
