The reason this month is the deadliest month for the United States in Afghanistan is because the United States has recently started a campaign that is (basically) like the surge and will hopefully have similar results ...
The disapointing thing is that so many politicians and members of the media who opposed the surge, and claimed it was going to fail, now fully support the strategy without ever admitting that it was successful or that they were wrong. I can accept someone's position evolving as they realize their previous understanding was incomplete, but they should at least be mature enough to admit that their previous position was wrong.
