hey guys wassup, long time reader, first time poster

anyways, I believe andrewpeirce's idea is a great idea, but there are just too many risks with that plan...I am sure that while there are going to be people who would be interested in playing with their Playstation 2 rather than buy a-still-expensive PS3 (remember, these are CASUAL gamers, people who would rather save their money for other things than a video game system), half of those people are already interested in the Nintendo Wii, or already got them.

Then, if Sony still carries out this plan, they will definitely anger the hardcore group, the ones who dedicated their gaming future for the PS3. If the hardcore group, the only ones who are still with Sony now, decide to give up Sony because of this action, Sony will lose even more customers than actually gaining anything.

No, I don't think Sony should give up, now that they are too far into this. I may not like saying this, but they have to keep on going. However, I do believe just dropping the price of the system is not enough. I believe that if they were to help publish more games, or help with the development costs for those companies that are willing to make games for the PS3, then maybe more gaming companies would feel that it's okay to make some games for the PS3. Sure, they may lose more money, but they need the games on the system to get more royalties for the games to cover up the costs for the system. Gotta lose some to gain some, thats Sony's motto and they need to apply it both with their system and when getting games.

You're saying over 50 mil. people own/want a Wii?

lol sorry no no not at all...i meant to say that at least half the people who owned the PS2 who are interested in motion controls own or want a Wii....now of course I don't know the exact value and prolly nobody will but all I meant to say was that the idea of focusing on PS2 instead of the PS3 but adding motion controls to the PS2 is just not a sound idea....doing this is just going to further alienate the current PS3 owners, future PS3 owners and possibly Sony customers in general because its telling the customers that "we just dont know what we are doing, so we are going to make several moves, make mistakes, take it back, and further drain your wallet as you buy our products that will soon be obsolete..." I know Sony has to make some moves to sell their consoles and games, but doing too many moves too soon (like having 4 different SKU's in one year) tells the public that they don't know how to make a good products, thus scaring the public from buying one because they don't know when the price drops again, making them feel gipped.

I see what you're saying, but at first I was just like, "WTF?"

Also, while reading your post I thought of an interesting point concerning the ps2 and Wii's relationship. If the Wii keeps getting PS2 ports with tacked-on motion controls (RE4, DBZ: Budokai Tenkaichi 2, now Okami, all the usual EA multiplats, etc.), then what reason would casuals have to get a Wii, aside from the usual Nintendo 1st party stuff? 90%+ of casuals already own a ps2.
