Good post Vagabond. Right now the concepts of americans, and western society in general (with americans leading the way), getting fatter and stupider is somewhat scary... in a few decades it'll be interesting to see how much more seriously people take the problem.
Personally, I think any system will collapse if it stays the same for too long. Slowly but surely constantly changing the system to fit with reality is the best way to go... no type of system is infallible.
