Smart decision. After seeing MAG at E3, it needs time to gestate a little more. Zipper needed to clear their heads a little and develop this game with a tighter focus, not being such a broadly ambitious FPS and being really average at it. Add to that it would have been destroyed releasing a week after MW2.
That being said, Sony is really pinning its hopes on a GT5 release this Christmas. It has to. Only U2 as a heavy hitter this holidays will be a big failure. And if that price doesn't drop, it will be carnage. 2009 holidays must be the focus, not 2010.
Moving to Q1 2010 is not a smart idea either. Some of the titles delayed until then:

Split/Second
Crowded after Christmas period thats for sure.
