From the dozens of games on the NES I never had a complaint. A few games on the Master System were really too hard for a kid my age and spoiled a lot of the fun:My Hero, Indiana Jones. The games sucked but I didn't knew better.
The first time I really bothered about a game not being good was on the N64 when I no longer received games as a gift but actually started saving for my collection. I began to appreciate the real value of a game when I bought it with my own money. And sadly didn't appreciate a game if it was bad value. The first time I regret buying a game was Doom64 because it was overpriced and not very enjoyable. That's when I started to read reviews hehe.
