I thought they were bad in FFX. I love the game, but the encounter rate was ridiculously high. I would get sunk in a battle after taking 3 - 4 steps - same thing with Devil Summoner 2.

You shouldn't worry about P4's price going up. FES has been out for more than a year, and it's still cheap. Anyways, get P4 now Soriku.
