I think when people say 'OoT is the best game ever, I think they are actually trying to say is: OoT is the 'best gaming experience ever'.
I also played this game when it came out, without a guide, and it still stands for me as my best gamilng experience ever, nothing ever came close to it anymore, I even lost interest in gaming after fininshing OoT because it was so good, and I wouldn't play anything else that didn't come close.
Many people have played OoT back when it came out and I think just like me, they were really blown away, a thing that rarely if never happens anymore (didn't happen to me after OoT) in todays gaming.
That's also the reason why i stopped playing TP after a few hours I guess, the game didn't wow me like OoT did, it felt awkward. I didn't enjoy it. Maybe one day I will give it another try.
