| Kantor said: Mom: The wii is much more powerful and cool... you will like it better. Mom: Don't cry, they have the same games anyways. Those two statements were the two biggest failures. Why does his mother CARE what game system he gets? |
She wants him to shut up. She is likely getting ONE system for the house, and the kid wants it to be the 360. She wants one more family friendly, and one she would want to play. There are a bunch of reasons why a parent wants input from their kid, or at least to be happy with what they are doing for fun.
Well, this incident has me making several observations:
* The mainstream videogame business is even less about raw specs than the past. People buy the Wii, and will even rationalize it is "more powerful (and cool)" and the graphics don't matter as much. It is more style than anything else.
* Waggle hypnosis has captivated millions to make them want to buy the Wii. The waving of the Wiimote has hypnotized moms all over that the Wii is the system of choice. Besides this, the Wiimote does look more accessible for people. It is small, rod shape, and vibrates, so that moms all over... (Ok, scratch that. This is a family safe forum, in theory, so I am best not to go there).
* Store clerks will say anything to agree with the person who holds the purse strings and making the buying decisions.
* The kid doesn't have a clue either. He is just operating under peer pressure, and isn't thinking, and doesn't know. He is likely grade school kid, who just has 360 as "cool" and so on. Can't even answer this, because he is young. Wii is not considered "cool" enough, and he needs to be popular with his snotty friends, and suck up to them. Now he will likely get laughed at.
* If the kid had a clue, he should ask for MadWorld and also No More Heroes for his mom. Remind the mom that the Wii also has M-Rated games to. Red Steel/No More Heroes bundle is great for this.
